SELC Career College offers three different Business Communications programs. Below are the full descriptions of the Business Communications courses.

Introduction to Communications 101 (Certificate)


Introduction to Communications 101 is a 6 week course that offers a direct, concrete approach and an opportunity for hands-on application of effective writing strategies. This program will help students build confidence and competence to speak in public, create and give professional oral presentations with current technology. Finally, students will be able to handle a job interview, and run business meetings.


Classroom Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, students will gain knowledge of the SIX key areas of business:

  1. Thinking about Communications

  3. Writing with Impact: Routine, Good-News, Bad-News Persuasive Writing & Editing Guidelines
  4. Writing Informal Reports, Formal Reports and Proposals & Editing Guidelines

*The program is a continuous intake where we accept students every three weeks allowing students to enter at the beginning of each module.

Business Communications 100 (with Co-op)


Business Communications 100 is a 24 week course comprised of 12 weeks of in-class instruction followed by 12 weeks of co-op education in a Canadian work environment. The Business Communications 100 incorporates excellence in business communications with the most current strategies and practices used in today’s workplace. It includes an emphasis on business writing, specifically in social media and technology platforms. As a result, the Business Communications 100 program will promote active learning and stimulate critical thinking.


Classroom Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, students will gain knowledge of the FIVE key areas of business:

  1. Understanding the Foundations of Business Communications
  2. Applying the Three-Step Writing Process
  3. Crafting Brief Messages
  4. Writing Employment Messages and Interviewing for Jobs
  5. Preparing Reports and Oral Presentations

*Students are required to bring a binder and a calculator as there is an accounting component.

Business Communications 100 Co-op

After 12 weeks of full time courses, students will proceed to fulfill their co-op placement component (12 weeks) of the program. Completion of the 12 week co-op component, students must provide a written report on their co-op experience to successfully complete the program.

Upon successfully completing the program, students will receive:

  •  Business Communications 100 Certificate
