Student of the Month: Thales Teixeira Soares from Hospitality 6 Months!!!
I was born on February 11, 1981 in the city of Águas Formosas in the state of Minas Gerais – Brazil, but my parents lived in nearby Machacalis. Due to the nature of my father’s work, we moved to a small town named Nova Modica in 1985, and in 1992 we moved to a bigger city called Governador Valadares MG, where I finished elementary school. In 1996, I moved to the state capital Belo Horizonte where I completed high school. In 2000, my parents divorced and I went to live with my mother in Teixeira de Freitas city in the state of Bahia. In 2002, I began studying Administration and in 2005 I returned to live in Belo Horizonte to complete my university. In 2007, I graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from UNINCOR and then went to study English in Dublin in Ireland. This is where I went into the hospitality industry. I started working as a dishwasher in a restaurant, then I was promoted to runner, receptionist and finally waiter. Besides the restaurant, I worked in a flower shop, in a nightclub, and I played for two years in the Irish championship volleyball. In June 2012, I went to study Spanish in Barcelona in Spain where I lived for four months. In these almost five years of living in Europe, I have traveled to nearly 40 countries. In January 2013, I started working as a waiter on the Italian cruise ship Costa Serena where I had the opportunity to learn a little of the Italian language. In concluding my 8-month contract on board, I went on vacation to Rio de Janeiro where I had a job offer in the most famous and luxurious Copacabana Palace Hotel where all international celebrities stay. In September 2015, I went to work at the Sofitel, a restaurant where I had French lessons. Finally, in March 2016, I decided to come to Vancouver to study Hospitality Management at SELC Career College.
