Edson from Hospitality:
I am the second child of my parents Carmen and Heriberto. I was born on April 21st in 1992 in Mazatlán, Mexico. I have an older brother and his name is Erick. As a kid a loved soccer, baseball, writing and play outside with my friends. Some of my favorite movies were The Lion King, The Sword in the Stone, Jumanji and so on. When I was 10 years old my mother moved to other city in Mexico because she studied to be a better nurse so my father had to take care of my brother and I. On my 12th birthday we had a party at our new house, it was the beginning of a new and better life. At that age I played soccer and we were really good, we won some trophies, I remember one day I scored the winner goal on a final and I cried.
We often traveled to visit my father’s family near Guadalajara. On vacations I used to stay there for two months. When I was 15 years old, I was selected to play to play a national soccer tournament with the state team. When I started university I studied English and French at the same time. On 2012 I got my first job in a hotel, I learned a lot from that experience. On that year I learned skim boarding, it has been one of the best experience in my life.
When I finished university it was a bad moment for me because I didn’t know what to do with my life. Finding a job was really complicated so I decided to move to another city and study a master. After three months I decided to quit and I went back to Mazatlan. Then I thought about going to Vancouver and study English. When my course finished I came back to my city and I started working to save money and go back Vancouver, I wanted to do something else here in Vancouver and now I am studying and working, this time is a completely different experience.
Roland from Business:
Roland is from a small town called Gossau in Switzerland. After he finished University at Rapperswil he decided to take a year or so off to do something abroad. He came to Canada for our natural beauty in September 2015 and enrolled in an ESL course. Roland was actively searching out an internship after that course finished to no avail. So, he decided to fill his time with a business course at SELC to make use of his year here. His parents will come and visit this summer after his co-op is completed when he plans to travel around the west of Canada with them and experience more of this country.
